A bit of a surprise

Joe Girardi must have made some kind of impression on Red Sox manager Terry Francona in his one year with the Marlins and his start so far with the Yankees (well, besides the fact that they’re in last place). Why? Girardi has been named to the All-Star coaching staff. Then again, this is going to be played in Babe’s house, so that could also have had some factor in the decision. Tigers manager Jim Leyland was also picked by Francona.

Over in the NL, Rockies manager Clint Hurdle chose Padres manager Bud Black and Mets manager Willie Randolph as his coaches. Too bad there’s no Joe Torre…that would have been a nice reunion.
